ABOUT THE ANCSA@40 COMMITTEE

December 18, 2011, will mark the fortieth (40) anniversary of the passage of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). This landmark legislation cleared the way for the construction of the 800 mile Transalaska Pipeline and ANCSA 17 (D)(2)  requiring the designation of acreage to federal conservation units.  The designation of those lands was enacted into law under the   Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act.  ANCSA has played, and will continue to play, a defining role in the development of Alaska.

The ANCSA@40 Committee is made up of volunteers with diverse interests and experience with the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act but hold the common goal of recording the struggles and challenges faced by the Alaska Native community in pursuit of this historic act.
